Guiding Beginning Teachers to Success - 10th March 2026
Starting a teaching career is both exciting and challenging. This interactive online professional learning experience has been designed to support Early-Career Teachers and School Leaders responsible for Mentoring them to develop the confidence, competence and autonomy needed to thrive in the classroom. Using PLi’s research-based model focused on connection, competence and autonomy, participants will explore the essential pedagogical practices required to build a strong foundation for an enjoyable and sustainable career in education.
With Beginning Teachers increasingly considering leaving the profession in their first few years in schools and classrooms becoming more and more disruptive, the need for support, guidance and practical pedagogical knowledge has never been greater for Early-Career Teachers and their Mentors. Participants will leave with practical frameworks, evidence-based tools and a renewed sense of professional purpose aligned with their core teaching values.
The 3hr online workshop will focus on the following outcomes:
Ground zero: cultivating positive relationships with students
Why creating trust, rapport, and knowing students individually improves engagement and positive behaviour
What is effective classroom management?
How to establish clear routines, behaviour expectations, and proactive behaviour management practices
Developing well-structured lessons with learning intentions, tailored to diverse learners and effective plenaries
High-Impact Teaching toolkit: using a range of evidence-based strategies to ensure lessons are engaging and students achieve

This course is presented by Glenn McLachlan: an innovative educational thought leader and qualified Coach with proven expertise in designing and implementing successful professional learning programs in schools across the world. He is deeply passionate about supporting educators by inspiring teams in schools to build a culture of collective efficacy for all teachers to have a positive impact on student achievement.
He is a dynamic workshop facilitator and engaging international keynote speaker, with over 20 years of coaching and leadership experience to understand the myriad challenges of teaching. He studied coaching at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and trained under Dr Jim Knight from the International Coaching Group. Outside of education, Glenn is also a professional AFL Coach at the Sydney Swans Academy.
